    I have been on plaquenil for over a year and a half and methotrexate since September. I get my eyes checked every six months and I am now at once a month on blood work for my liver enzymes (used to be every 2 weeks). I have lupus which mainly affects my joints and skin. One affects your eyes more and one affects your liver more. I would appreciate any comments or advice from everyone. Wannabe Hi, I am on both methotrexate and plaquenil.     Was the plaquenil controlling your RA symptoms? The trouble is you lose hair on Methotrexate too. But after losing heaps when I first went on it, I have stabalised now, I have thinner hair but it still looks fine and healthy. If plaq was working for your symptoms I'd go back on it. If you feel like the RA is escallating then go for mtx.
