I did not know that the symptoms I was experiencing were those of Lyme disease. I was then referred to a Lyme disease specialist, Dr. Donta, and he ordered a Western-blot test and brain SPECT. Before the results were in, which were overwhelmingly positive, Dr. Donta made a clinical diagnosis of Lyme disease and added Plaquenil to the Biaxin. Please help me as I'm supposed to start a new regimen of meds for lyme. Currently on biaxin, omnicef and about to add plaquenil. I've read good things about it but also bad side effects. Can anyone please help me with this. I don't want to take anything that has really bad side effects. Apr 10, 2019 Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine belongs to a group of medicines called quinolines. Starting slow sounds wise. When I took Biaxin & Plaquenil, I only felt really tired for a couple days, but then I haven't had any muscle pain. Plaquenil is widely used, although there is the very rare case of vision loss on it. My doc assumed me it was quite rare and that I would do the requisite vision tests to keep tabs on that. I am taking plaquenil with biaxin and I have to say for the firs time in a long time I have hope The herx is not great but that is from the biaxin or the combo not from just plaquenil. I am feeling like I may be making a breakthrough for the first time on treatment and i have nothing bad to say as of yet about the drug. Plaquenil can cause eye issues, good to get regular eye check up if you take it for a few months or more. which I have not done. yet Sounds like you got everything covered with the Biaxin and the Doxy, probably a good combo. I hope those antibiotics help you make some progress.
