What is drug-induced skin pigmentation. Drug-induced skin pigmentation accounts for 10–20% of all cases of acquired hyperpigmentation. Pigmentation may be induced by a wide variety of drugs; the main ones implicated include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDs, phenytoin, antimalarials, amiodarone, antipsychotic drugs, cytotoxic drugs, tetracyclines, and heavy metals. For the last couple of years I have been having these "flares" that an explanation cannot be given for. I felt an itch on my upper right lip and within 5 minutes it started to swell. I have kept a food journal and can't identify any food pattern. Yesterday I had to work three jobs, and by mid afternoon the bottom of my right foot had began to ich and swell.
