Oct 20, 2016 I would take that to mean that there is some improvement in your inflammatory process that is involved in the digestion and improves the nerves and muscles involved in your GI tract. I have a bad case of Sjogrens along with 4 other autoimmune diseases and 2 immune diseases. I had been on Plaquenil for around 5 years and felt it was helping. Another thing to think about is Plaquenil is supposed to help with inflammation and I noticed you said your hands had inflammation. It doesn't work for everyone but it can take up to 4 months to notice a difference. I would talk to your doctor about it, going off such an important medicine without talking to him is dangerous. It certainly sounds odd to have osteo in every joint. I doubt very much that the Plaquinel will help in the intestines. There are some other types of anti-inflammatories that get used with inflammatory bowel diseases in addition to prednisone to initially manage the flare and they are having really good results with immune suppressants.

Plaquenil is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

It is not known how Plaquenil works but researchers believe that Plaquenil interferes with communication between cells within the immune system. Ultimately, it is thought to block proinflammatory pathways. Jun 11, 2013 Study Raises Questions about Sjogren's and Plaquenil. For many patients with Sjogren's, Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine has long been the go to drug that their doctors prescribe.
