Plaquenil - Better Than Prednisone? The conclusion is that I have an autoimmune disease that has affected my kidneys. Throughout the 12 1/2 years, I have been prescribed 10mg of predinsone a day during my `worst' time to 1 mg every other day when I was in `serious' remission. The lower the dosage of steroids, the better for the patient. This means that the side effects of Plaquenil are mild and infrequent compared with its potential benefits.
