Is plaquenil an anti inflammatory drug

I know I had never heard of it until my rheumatologist said that is what I have...along w/osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. My blood tests are negative for RF but my CRP test was above normal. Ai Yi Yi Plaquenil reduces inflammation in many Rheumatic disorders, the mode of action is pretty complicated though so I shan't bore you with all the details, but basically it prevents your dendritic cells (these are messengers for your immune system, if you will) from interacting with your T-Cells (a special type of white blood cell which through a convoluted and boring process, causes inflammation when an infection is found, and these basically malfunction with inflammatory disorders). So, he started me on 400 mg of Plaquenil a day and he just upped it to 600 mg a day. As I said previously, my Rheumatologist now says it is inflammatory osteoarthrits. Why am I taking Plaquenil, which does help tremedously BTW, if I don't have RA or Lupus. This "dendritic deactivation" (I made that phrase up) helps reduce your immune system being silly and inflaming your joints.

Jun 11, 2013 Plaquenil is not an immunosuppressive medication, it is an antimalarial. Plaquenil disrupts the signal from the presenting immune cells to the phagocytes. Nov 09, 2018 Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America. With Plaquenil, however, the most commonly prescribed anti-malarial, this sort of damage occurs only in 1 out of 5,000 people who take the drug for five years or more. For this reason though, it is important that you see an ophthalmologist for an exam before starting to take an anti-malarial medication for your lupus.

My sister was dx'd with Inflammatory Arthritis and Plaquenil sent her into remission some years ago now. I also take meds for high bp, asthma and high cholesterol.

Feb 19, 2020 Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. Plaquenil is available in generic form. Maybe I am a rare guy but it worked within days. Whenever I came off it travelling to a sunny destination or to try only an anti inflammatory for a flare or even a steroid injection things were bad until I restarted plaquenil. Then it was like a switch boom. Better. Each day ten per cent better. I read there are anti inflammatory properties. In 2003 a novel mechanism was described wherein hydroxychloroquine inhibits stimulation of the toll-like receptor TLR 9 family receptors. TLRs are cellular receptors for microbial products that induce inflammatory responses through activation of the innate immune system. As with other quinoline antimalarial drugs.
